Food Cravings
Are you the type of person who has to always have chocolate, coffee, or pasta or you will feel as though you can't make it through the day? Food cravings are a signal to our body. It it telling us that we either need that thing or we are deficient in something else. I am going to give you a little short hand list of some things that might be going on with you if you can't seem to put down those chips, or sugary snacks.
Coffee: If coffee is a huge habit for you, then you may be overly stressed. Your cortisol (stress hormone) is probably in overdrive
Chocolate: Can be a magnesium deficiency or overgrowth of bacteria in your gut
Pasta: Unstable blood sugar or a vitamin E deficiency
Soda: Blood sugar is off or you are dehydrated
Steak: Iron deficiency
What can you do?
Coffee: Try a coffee substitute like Chicory tea.
Add in some Holy Basil or Oat straw to combat the stress levels and help your adrenal system.
Chocolate: Magnesium and a probiotic supplement.
Try a good quality dark chocolate with little or no sugar
Pasta: Eat meals with good health proteins, fats and complex carbs
Eat carbs with other foods and not alone
Eat regularly so you don't get hungry
Try a good quality B Vitamin complex
Soda: Increase electrolytes
Coconut water
Water with a touch of 100% fruit juice
Just water in general
Steak: If you are a meat eater, organic grass fed is best
Non meat eater, use a supplement and eat food high in iron
Liquid chlorophyll is one molecule away from hemoglobin and it's high in magnesium
Many of these cravings are also much higher in women who are still having their cycle. Even if you are not having your cycle, or it is intermittent, these cravings can still come around when you are supposed to have your cycle.
Remember that cravings are a sign that something is off. Look into what it is you are eating, your stress level, and you can get a handle on it pretty quickly.
Listen to what your body tells you. It is a well oiled machine and will talk to you if you are willing to listen.
