Start a Garden
Would you like to grow some vegetables? I know many people don’t have the time or the space to grow what they eat. Here’s the thing. You can grow a few vegetables in a small area if you wish. Even grow them on a balcony. If you have been wanting to try to grow something then take the leap and get a few pots and some great organic soil and try it out. One vegetable, which is actually a fruit that is usually good to grow in a container is cherry tomatoes. Right beside that you can grow basil. These two plants work well together. They also taste great together too!! You can start tomatoes from seed if you wish but you have to give them a lot of love before you transplant them outside. If you don’t have the time to start them this way then you can always buy a plant that is all ready to go and transplant it into your pot at home. Just keep it in a good place to get about 6 hours of sunlight, water it, love it and watch the tomatoes fruit.
For Basil, people have said start them indoors, yet when it gets warm enough here I just sprinkle the seeds outside in my garden bed and let them grow. When you grow Basil you can harvest often. Pick off the bigger leaves so the other smaller leaves can grow. The best thing you can make in my opinion with Basil is pesto. I am in love with pesto!! Here is how I make it. Basil leaves go into my Nutra bullet, olive oil, garlic clove, little bit of salt, shredded Parmesan, Asiago and Romano cheese. Blend it up. If it seems to dry I add more oil. I do not measure I just go by what I like and how dry it is. Some people will like more cheese or more garlic. It also depends on how much Basil you have harvested. You can also freeze the pesto for another time. I try to freeze as much as I can so I have it through the Winter. You can use it on pasta, pizza as a replacement for tomato sauce, over rice, on your eggs. Use your imagination.
There are many other vegetables you can plant in a small space if you have the time and the ambition too. This could be a hobby you like to do for a few months out of the year or it could turn into something big. You can always find many resources online to help you learn how to grow better. Once you start you figure out what is working and what isn’t. We all live in different climates and have different lives. I think that you may enjoy the freshness of some nice juicy tomatoes on your salad during the Summer and some pesto on your pasta. It can be so rewarding to see how the plant grows and how delicious the vegetables taste right off the vine.
